About eWitness When
When you wish to have a project, concept, invention, creative work witnessed so that you can prove what you created and when it was created. Where
eWitness can be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Submissions can be files that were created previously in well-known word processor, graphics and other software programs, or they can be created by filling out an easy-to-use online form. The user controls when the submission or partial submission is processed by eWitness – this allows the user to continue to add to one submission, by making periodic uploads as changes and additions are made. Evidence of the changes in the file or document is a simple comparison from one version of the document to another.
Why
If you're a creative person, then you'll want to keep records of your ideas, because the creator has to protect his or her own ideas first. The first level of protection for an idea is to be able to prove that you thought of it on a particular date and time – this is known as date of conception. In the old days, this was done by having two (human) individuals “witness” your inventor's notebook on each page of the inventor's notebook that had writing in it. There are two problems with this old-days system: (1) you need human witnesses to read, understand and agree to sign your notebook, and (2) you've got to disclose your idea to others in order to have a valid “old-days” witnessing of your idea (can you really trust them?). The easier that it is to have your concepts witnessed, the more likely you are to make it a part of your creative routine. Since there is great flexibility in obtaining an eWitness time-stamp and locked copy of your submission, you will be able to create evidence of proof of conception any time and anywhere, without the need to carry around a single-use, cumbersome, bound paper notebook.
